Students, parents, faculty, and community members joined together on Saturday to march in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. The protest was organized by the Black Student Assembly (BSA) and musician and USC alumnus Kabwasa. The protestors joined millions of others around the world to honor George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other victims of police violence and to protest against the racial injustice Black students face on the university campus.
Today, Long Beach community members gathered to help clean up their city after protests following the death of George Floyd became destructive last night. Social media posts, such as Instagram stories, shared information such as time, place, and what gear to bring to help clean up downtown Long Beach.
This morning in Downtown Los Angeles, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services held two naturalization ceremonies for 10,000 eligible residents, representing 140 countries. On Sunday, Oct. 13, Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell will host Los Angeles County’s second annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration at City Hall and Grand Park. The event’s theme, “Past, Present, and Future,” is meant to coincide with calls for state and federal authorities to formally change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.
