Angel City FC and Seattle Reign played a pivotal game Wednesday, ending in a 3-1 win for the LA-based team at BMO Stadium.
Angel City has proven they are a force to be reckoned with this 2026 season after their disappointing 2025 fall season last year, ending with a 7–6–13 record. Now, the LA team is 10–6–8, with their win against Seattle lucky number 10, which makes this fall their first 10-win season in club history.
In the 20th minute, Angel City forward Ally Sentnor scored her fourth goal of the season from the penalty spot after a handball was called on Seattle midfielder Angharad James-Turner. That marked Sentnor’s second penalty spot goal in a row as her last one from the 3-3 draw against the Denver Summit was five days prior.
But the celebration was short as the Reign came close to equalizing five minutes later when Seattle midfielder Jess Fishlock’s shot hit the left post. Angel City’s defender Emily Sans blocked the rebound quickly, clearing the ball from the box.
Angel City goalie Angelina Anderson had two saves in the first half. A major one came in the 30th minute when Seattle midfielder Maddie Mercado fired a left-footed shot from the right of the box which Anderson saved to keep the lead.
Angel City wasn’t done putting numbers on the board in the first half as they went up 2-0 in the 40th minute. After a corner kick attempt, midfielder Evelyn Shores sent a cross into the box for midfielder Ary Borges to send a header into the bottom-left corner of the net. It marked her third goal of the season.
Going into the second half, Angel City didn’t let up. Instead, they scored a third goal late in the half, going up 3-0 in the 81st minute. Midfielder Taylor Suarez picked up the ball and launched a shot from the center of the box into the top-right corner of Seattle’s net, past goalie Claudia Dickey. For Shores, that was her second assist of the night and seventh of the season.
Suarez’s goal was historic, as it was the fastest in-game substitute goal in NWSL league history, after coming 21 seconds before the match itself.
Angel City didn’t end with a clean sheet, though, for Anderson. Seattle trickled a late goal through when Seattle defender Sofia Huerta scored from outside the box.
Angel City defeated Seattle 3-1, securing three points from the match itself. The LA-based team holds multiple new club records, including four consecutive multi-goal games, high road wins, clean sheets and number of goals.
ACFC’s next match is against Utah Royals FC on Sunday, Sept. 20, at America First Field. They look to hit 11 wins and hold onto a playoff position.
