On Oct. 1, Kyoto Animation released their final trailer for “Sound! Euphonium,” featuring scenes from the animated series’ 11 year run. The trailer is centered around the interactions of protagonist Kumiko Omaue, her friend Reina Kousaka and rival Mayu Kuroe.
Since April 2015, “Sound! Euphonium” has spanned across three seasons, five theatrical releases, spinoffs and special shorts. The new trailer and “Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie Part 2” marks the conclusion of the series.
The movie first released in Japan on Sept. 11, grossing $962,135 upon opening in theaters and ranked at number seven across the country. Both “Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie Part 1” and Part 2 have been selected for the Feature Film category at Bucheon International Animation Festival in South Korea. Both films will make their Korean debuts at the festival on Oct. 24 and 25.
“Sound! Euphonium” follows the story of euphonium player Kumiko Oumae and her adventures in the Kitauji High School Concert Band trying to achieve gold at the National Competition. Throughout her time in the band, Oumae faced hardships and challenges in not only performing, but her relationships with her friends, family and peers. The story of “Sound! Euphonium” is one of youth drama and overcoming challenges, no matter how insurmountable they seem.
In addition to capturing the youth experience of being in a music ensemble, the series places a large emphasis on the music through its expansive soundtrack and performance scenes. The series has touched the lives of many young musicians, such as through the official “Sound! Euphonium” wind ensemble concert, where individuals and school ensembles submitted videos of performing iconic pieces from the series.
At the time of reporting, official U.S. releases for Part 1 and Part 2 of the final movies have not been announced.
