District 9 seat up for grabs

Two 40-year-old immigrants who grew up in South Central, Jose Ugarte and Estuardo Mazariegos, are running for a seat on the District 9 City Council. The district includes USC, Historic South Central Los Angeles, and the greater South Park area. Curren Price, the former city council member, was a controversial figure who faced 12 felony charges - alleged embezzlement, perjury, and conflicts of interest.
