The Los Angeles Chargers will fly across the country this weekend to take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after a horrendous start to the season.
With the addition of former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as the Chargers new offensive coordinator, head Coach John Harbaugh looked like he was going to have a firing offense.
However, that has not been the case to start the season. In their first game of the year the Chargers lost to the Arizona Cardinals 26-14 and last week against the Las Vegas Raiders it was the same result again losing 26-14. Something needs to change for the Chargers and it won’t get any easier this week against the Bills.
The Bills are coming into this matchup looking like the best team in the league as they usually do during the regular season. In last week’s game against a talented Detroit team, quarterback Josh Allen threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Allen is on a rampage and is looking like he could be on pace for another MVP season.
Another strong point of the Bills offensive attack has been their tight ends and rushing attack. Dalton Kincaid is looking like one of the best tight ends currently and his backup Dawson Knox is good enough to be a starter on many teams around the league.
James Cook is the Bills running back and last week he put up 135 yards and a touchdown against a tough Detroit defense. Cook’s run game has helped open up the play action offense for Allen and the team who will be coming into this game with all the confidence in the world.
On the contrary, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has not started the season off the way he wanted. He has tallied more interceptions (three) then touchdowns (two) and has looked completely out of rhythm. Turnovers have been the main problem for this Chargers team as they have also fumbled the ball twice over the first two games of the season.
The one positive for the Chargers coming into this game is star receiver Ladd McConkey should be back from injury. With his absence the Chargers have real depth problems at wideout and in order to beat the Bills they are going to need a strong performance out of him.
The key to this game for the Chargers is on the defensive side of the ball. They will need to try to slow down Josh Allen and the offense and force some turnovers if they want any shot at winning the game. Last week Los Angeles was able to hold the Raiders to only 57 rush yards on 29 carries which was one of the only positive stats from the loss. Without former star defensive end Joey Bosa, safety Derwin James will look to lead this unit and prevent a blow out in Buffalo.
The game will be played on Sunday afternoon with the Bills coming off a 10 day break after having last played last Thursday. It will be a tough task for the Chargers, but if there is one way to turn your season around it is to get a win against the best team in the league.
