For the last 10 years, USC has partnered with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to lead the Los Angeles homeless count. The USC Center for Homelessness, Housing and Health Equity Research has helped design the methodology to administer the count, producing the final counts of sheltered adults and youth, as well as estimates of those unsheltered. On Tuesday, LAHSA’s governing commission voted unanimously not to reapply for the role.
LAHSA shared a statement with Annenberg Media after deadline.
“While we remain confident in our team’s unmatched expertise and technical readiness to continue managing these systems, our priority is the people our mission calls us to serve and the stability of the regional response to homelessness — not maintaining an agency’s position.”
Specifically about USC, LAHSA wrote that it hopes the next agency partners with USC for continuity of data.
