At this year’s Xbox Games Showcase livestream, fans were spoiled with a new trailer for ATLUS’ upcoming Persona 4 Revival and confirmation of the latest title in the series, the long awaited Persona 6. While Persona 4 Revival is set to be released on February 18, 2027, no information was announced regarding a release date for Persona 6. Both titles will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam with Xbox Gamepass subscribers able to play on day one.
With famous leakers such as Nate the Hate predicting that the livestream would include the announcement of Persona 6 and release date for Persona 4 Revival, hype among fans was at an all time high leading up to the showcase. The leaks delivered and have given fans two new trailers to dissect for the upcoming titles.
After being officially confirmed with a teaser trailer one year ago, fans have been starved of any news regarding the title aside from a brief glimpse of the game’s new graphics. However, today’s trailer gives players a direct look into the gameplay and look and feel of the new title.
With Persona 5 Royal being released in 2020 and Persona 3 Reload in 2024, Persona 4 is the last game from the “mainline series” to receive a modern remake featuring overhauled graphics and features. Released originally on the Playstation 2 in 2008 with a remake of the game for the PS Vita, Persona 4 Golden, being released in 2012, fans of the game haven’t seen any new game content regarding Persona 4 in the past 14 years.
Parts that immediately stood out in the trailer include a new fully 3D world, animated 3D cutscenes, stylish UI, English voice actors, music track, special attacks known as a “Series Finale” and the baton pass system from Persona 5 Royal.
In addition to the new trailer, more information and screenshots can be found on both the English and Japanese official websites, revealing things that were not shown in the trailer. A livestream from Atlus revealing more information about the game will take place on June 18 at 4 pm PST.
In addition to new information regarding Persona 4 Revival, the highly anticipated Persona 6 has been finally officially confirmed by ATLUS. However, unlike Revival’s trailer full of color and reveals, Persona 6’s trailer seems to take a similar direction as Persona 5’s original minimalistic reveal trailer.
With 9 years between the release of Persona 4 in 2008 and Persona 5 in 2017, the timeframe between Persona 5 and 6 is the longest fans of the series have ever experienced between two titles. Despite the new trailer not revealing much about the game itself, fans have been hungry for any information regarding the new game with recent leaks of character art design being issued copyright strikes by Sega prior to the trailer.
What we currently know beyond the game’s existence comes courtesy of the Xbox game store description of Persona 6 that fans quickly found. From this description it seems the game will have the all too familiar everyday school life and social links the franchise has become known and loved for. However, the description reveals the game will have a “haunting, profound new mystery” with themes of “strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents,” a new theme the series has yet to explore.
