On the night of Oct. 13, USC’s Bing Theatre ignited with energy as students, alumni and faculty gathered for the comedy show “Making Love with David Magidoff.” The two-and-a-half-hour long show hosted by USC alum and comedian David Magidoff, blended improv, music, stand-up comedy and slam poetry with a variety of famous guests.

The night kicked off with an a cappella performance from the Troy Tones, who set the electric tone of the performance, immediately capturing audience members’ attention and applause, especially when Lisa Loeb joined the group on stage. Troy Tones member Brooke Murgitroyd performed with the group for the first time, sharing that it was especially memorable to collaborate with Loeb on her song “Shine.”

From there, Magidoff jumped into the heart of his show where he conducted live interviews with celebrity guests about their most embarrassing and unforgettable love stories. The night’s first guest was “Veep” star and comedian Timothy Simons, who recounted a cringey first date and the funny story about how he met his wife, Annie. Later, Magidoff talked to “The Office” and “The Paper” actor, Oscar Nuñez who similarly recounted a hilarious story about his wife, Ursula.

Each interview was followed by improvised scenes, where Magidoff and his comedy troupe exaggerated, poked fun at and acted out the scenes that his celebrity guests depicted. In watching each awkward moment come, everyone in the audience exploded with laughter. After one interview, Magidoff opened up to the audience after an interview, sharing that he performs the show out of love — a moment that deepened everyone’s connection to him.

Additionally, the audience enjoyed celebrity guest appearances from “Austin & Ally” star Calum Worthy, Grammy Award winner Lisa Loeb and Oscar-nominated composer Ryan Lott. Magidoff’s lineup of diverse guests ensured that every audience member found something to enjoy.

“Making Love with David Magidoff” left its audience laughing from the hilarious jokes the guest celebrities and troupe members made. USC ‘29 student Sophie Snyder remarked that it was incredible to watch the improv unfold because it was impressive to see how quick yet witty each troupe member could be. She confirmed that she would indeed attend another one of Magidoff’s comedy shows.

Additionally, freshman Luke Merill found Calum Worthy’s interjections to be funny, because it added comedic relief throughout the piece. He also added that Oscar Nuñez and his wife were hilarious, and that the duo made the night amazing. Merill agreed with Snyder, adding that he loved the storytelling and improv and that he would “definitely go again.”

“Making Love with David Magidoff” was an experience that highlighted individual humor and demonstrated creativity. From heartfelt stories to outrageous, provocative improv, Magidoff proved to the USC community that laughter brings people together, especially when leading with love. As everyone filed out of Bing Theatre to get the snacks waiting outside, it was clear that “Making Love with David Magidoff” lived up to its name by leaving everyone full of laughter and love.
