It’s finally awards season, and the 68th Grammys rang in the new year strong with some big wins at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Bad Bunny’s “DeB TiRAR MáS FOToS,” made history, winning Album of the Year, while Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish and Finneas for “Wildflower.” The 68th Annual Grammy Awards also hosted a wide variety of outfits from bejeweled ballgowns to denim jeans.
Let’s start strong with “Please Please Please” singer Sabrina Carpenter’s stunning Valentino dress. Designed by Valentino’s creative director Alessandro Michele, the dress blended youthfulness and classiness excellently. Her sheer capelet over her shoulders revealed a bejeweled bodice that accentuated her waist. Finally, the dress fell onto the floor in tiers of ruffles, adding the general femininity of the gown.
On the other hand, former TikTok star turned singer Addison Rae showed up in a white Alaia dress. While unique (serving business in the front and party in the back), the dress structure was confusing and unflattering. The top of the dress seemed too big for her frame, and the waist dropped into a poofy skirt. Although her dress was a miss, the simplicity of her makeup was flattering and complemented her facial features.
Best New Artist winner Olivia Dean had a huge night and wore a beautiful black and white dress to accept her Grammy. The custom Chanel dress had a black, sequined and feathered bodice that fell into a flattering, white drop waist. Finally, the ballgown dropped into a beautiful, attention-grabbing train behind her. Alongside her matching black and white Chanel heels, Dean wowed everyone in attendance.
Arguably the most head-turning outfit of the night, Chappell Roan attended the awards in a sheer custom Mugler dress. Known for her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” Chappell Roan wore a controversial burgundy-colored dress that was off the mark for a Grammy’s outfit. While her hair and makeup stunned everyone, the chiffon dress did not live up to the formal, “artistic black-tie” dress code.
Pharell, Malice and Pusha T showed up in blush pink velvet 70s-esque matching suits. The trio flaunted custom Louis Vuitton suits, breaking free of the stereotypical black-tie suits that the men typically wear. Everyone loves to see a splash of pink on the red carpet, and these men certainly delivered.
Shaboozey had an exciting evening, winning his first Grammy for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his song “Amen.” While the attempt at changing up the typical male style is worthy of applause, the denim bottoms and suit on top from Bode was a bit of a miss. His ode to country was great, but we would have preferred to see a full Canadian tux.
The Grammy Awards are always an exciting night for new artists to break out and for deserving singers to win big. In addition to watching for award winners, it was fun to see performers and attendees express their personalities through their outfits.
