The future of USC men’s basketball is looking bright after four-star, small forward Josh Rivera announced his commitment to the Trojans on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. Rivera currently plays at Archbishop Stepinac High School in New York. On3 ranks Rivera #127 nationally, and ESPN’s SC Next rankings place him at the No. 2 spot among Class of 2027 prospects in New York State.

Rivera’s commitment is head coach Eric Musselman’s first pledge in USC’s 2027 recruiting class. After having a No. 5-ranked recruiting class last year, this new addition could give Musselman the momentum in recruiting, securing another top recruit in his tenure. For the Trojans, adding Rivera might potentially strengthen the program’s long-term future in the Big Ten conference and while competing nationally.

The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 8.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 26 appearances during his junior year. He also shot 53% from the 3-point line. Next year, Rivera will join his former Archbishop Stepinac teammates, center Darius and forward Adonis Ratliff, who are currently in their freshman year at USC.

“Josh is a standout on our nationally recognized basketball program, a key role in our team’s success the last three years and had an unbelievable career both academically, athletically and socially,” Archbishop Stepinac varsity head coach Patrick Massaroni said during Rivera’s commitment ceremony.

Rivera’s versatility could provide the Trojans with another option on both ends of the floor for future seasons to come.
