According to the National Weather service, Los Angeles remains under an extreme heat warning through Thursday evening. In the USC area, temperatures reached above 100 degrees for five consecutive days this month. Downtown L.A. is also affected by the urban heat island effect, meaning roads, buildings and concrete absorb heat during the day and slowly release it at night.
