Researchers from the Keck School of Medicine found that adults have been drinking less, but trends vary for different demographics across age groups. Brian P. Lee, the lead investigator, stated this was the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that alcohol rates have fallen for adults. Younger demographics have been drinking less on average, with Generation Z adults’ alcohol consumption habits dropping over 5%. Millennials have the largest decrease in heavy drinking, dropping from 17% from 2022 to 2024.
