Mikayla Matthews announced on Instagram Monday that she will not continue her run on Hulu’s Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, also known as SLOMW. This announcement comes less than a week after the season 5 premiere, which saw blow-ups between MomTok members Matthews and Taylor Frankie Paul.
“I made my decision over a week ago after hearing some news,” Matthews wrote in a caption.
Frankie Paul was confirmed as a cast member for season 6 of SLOMW earlier this month. On Sunday, Frankie Paul shared her reasoning for returning for a sixth season.
“The only reason I’m continuing the show is to share my story and hopefully help people,” Frankie Paul wrote on her Instagram story.
Less than a day after that post, Matthews announced her departure.
“I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree with, especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse,” Matthews continued in her post.
Season 5 of SLOMW follows the events leading up to the cancellation of The Bachelorette last spring, which was supposed to follow Frankie Paul. The Bachelorette was canceled three days before its premiere following the release of a 2023 video in which Frankie Paul appears to throw chairs at her former partner.
SLOMW was put on a production pause on March 16, 2026, after a domestic assault investigation became public knowledge involving Frankie Paul and her former boyfriend and ‘baby daddy,’ Dakota Mortensen. The investigation began in February 2026.
Three days after the production pause, the 2023 video was released by TMZ.
“There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly,” Matthews wrote. “Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change.”
While Matthews does not name anyone in her post, it follows a tumultuous time for MomTok both on and off the show.
MomTok is a group of Utah-based mothers that create social media content. They gained global attention when Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premiered back in 2024, but were viral before due to online scandals.
Matthews is one of the original members of MomTok and is known for her relatable content. Frankie Paul is also one of the original members of the group, but before the show was most well known for admitting to soft swinging on a TikTok live in 2022.
For the first few seasons, the running joke on the show was whether MomTok could survive the fights, controversies and scandals that surrounded its cast. Now with this conflict seemingly dividing cast members and fans, the future of the show beyond Season 6 is in question.
Matthews is not the only member of MomTok leaving the show, Whitney Leavitt also announced early this month that season 5 was her last season.
Season 6 of SLOMW is currently in production.
