LOS ANGELES — Every game matters at this point for the Los Angeles Kings. But Monday’s matchup with the Nashville Predators meant just a bit more.
Both teams entered even with 81 points, with Nashville owning the tiebreaker over LA. Despite sparing one point to the Predators with the overtime result, the Kings won 3-2 and now sit in the Western Conference’s second Wild Card spot.
LA’s third line shone. Joel Armia opened up scoring by winning the puck in the neutral zone and flinging it in on the left side. After Nashville scored in the second period, winger Jared Wright found third-line center Scott Laughton for the go-ahead goal. The Predators answered again, forcing overtime, the Kings’ NHL-record 32nd appearance past regulation this season.
Thanks to number-two goalie Anton Forsberg, who made 29 total saves in the bout, the Predators were shut out in the shootout. Talk of Troy reporter Kasey Kazliner was present at Crypto.com Arena and broke the game down on Skate of Thrones, TOT’s Kings podcast. Listen below!
