No. 3 USC Beach Volleyball opened the MPSF Midseason Rumble with a pair of dominant victories Friday, sweeping No. 10 California and Oregon to extend its winning streak to eight duals at Merle Norman Stadium.
The Trojans (12-2) opened the day with a 5-0 sweep of California before returning to the sand for another 5-0 win over Oregon in the afternoon, improving to 8-0 at home this season.
Against the Golden Bears, four of the five flights went the distance, but USC won every three-set battle to secure the sweep.
The top pair of junior Zoey Henson and freshman Sarah Wood rallied past junior Emma Donley and senior Portia Sherman 17-21, 21-18, 15-12 to clinch the final point. Junior Ashley Pater and sophomore Kennedy Coakley also came back for a three-set victory at the No. 2 position, defeating junior Grace Hong and senior Marilu Pally 15-21, 21-17, 15-12. This is the first time this season Pater and Coakley have dropped a set at home.
Senior Alana Embry and sophomore Quincy Stephens delivered another tight win at No. 3, outlasting senior Gia Fisher and junior Ava Haughy 21-17, 18-21, 17-15.
USC picked up its first point against California from the fourth flight as freshman Bella Satterwhite and graduate Kerry Keefe beat seniors Mila Vugrincic and Jenna Colligan 21-18, 21-17, the only duo to win in straight sets. Freshman Kyra Zaengle and sophomore Calinda Kok followed with a comeback win at No. 5, defeating sophomore Elle Evers and graduate Mila Yarich 20-22, 21-14, 15-10.
In the afternoon dual, USC dominated from the start against Oregon, winning four matches in straight sets.
Henson and Wood led the charge at the top spot with a 21-11, 21-12 victory over sophomore Liz Rossi and junior Bella Gamache. Pater and Coakley were even more decisive at No. 2, defeating graduate Daley McClellan and redshirt sophomore Elsa Snipes 21-8, 21-8. The eight points in each set were the fewest USC has allowed an opponent since March 2024, when it held — again — Oregon to 15 total points in a match.
Embry and Stephens earned USC’s only three-set win of the dual, outlasting juniors AJ Slojkowski and Gwen Fife 21-14, 22-24, 15-12 at the No. 3 flight.
Zaengle and Kok added a straight-set win at No. 4, 21-15, 21-16, over sophomores Hanna Bjornson and Sofia Taylor, while sophomore Macy Bolyard and junior Kaileigh Truslow completed the sweep with a 21-11, 21-14 victory against senior Natasha George and redshirt sophomore Katrena Koellner at No. 5.
USC will continue play at the MPSF Midseason Rumble on Saturday with duals against No. 16 Grand Canyon and No. 13 LSU.
