The No. 4 USC Trojans kept their momentum rolling Saturday at Merle Norman Stadium, toppling No. 3 Cal Poly 4-1 before sweeping Concordia University Irvine 5-0 to improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Trojans won nine of 10 courts on the day and continued to showcase depth across the lineup in the second day of the Battle for LA.

Against Cal Poly, USC started strong with a 4-0 to secure the dual before dropping its only point at No. 1.

Cal Poly’s top pair of redshirt senior Ella Connor and junior Erin Inskeep outlasted sophomore Zoey Henson and freshman Sarah Wood in a tightly contested first set before pulling away in the second, 30-28, 20-11, to give the Mustangs their only point against the Trojans.

At No. 4, junior Kaileigh Truslow and graduate Kerry Keefe finished first with a 21-18, 21-17 win over sophomore Elise Lenahan and junior Quinn Perry. Junior Ashley Pater and sophomore Kennedy Coakley followed at No. 2, grinding out a 21-14, 34-32 victory in the day’s longest set to put USC ahead for good.

Senior Alana Embry and sophomore Quincy Stephens added a 21-19, 21-17 win at No. 3, and freshman Kyra Zaengle and sophomore Calinda Kok sealed the dual at No. 5 with a 21-17, 21-12 decision over graduate Peyton Dueck and junior Katie Clevenger.

In the afternoon, USC left little doubt.

The Trojans swept Concordia Irvine in straight sets on all five courts, holding the Golden Eagles to 15 points or fewer in eight of 10 sets.

Henson and Wood rebounded at No. 1 with a 21-9, 21-15 victory over senior Olivia Medina and graduate Aliyah Moore, who earlier gave Cal Poly its tightest contest in the Mustangs’ noon dual against Concordia. Pater and Coakley were sharp again at No. 2, winning 22-20, 21-10, their second extra-points set victory of the day.

At No. 3, sophomore Macy Bolyard and junior Madison Goellner delivered a 21-15, 21-15 win, while freshman Bella Satterwhite and graduate Kerry Keefe handled the No. 4 spot, 21-15, 21-15. Both duos competed together for the first time this season.

Zaengle and Kok capped the day at No. 5 with a dominant 21-7, 21-14 performance to remain unbeaten as a pair this season.

USC has now won four straight duals after opening the year against a nationally ranked slate.

The Trojans return to action Tuesday at home against Stetson and for a rematch against CSUN.
