While polls for the Undergraduate Student Government elections closed on Feb. 22, USG has decided to postpone the release of the results of the president and vice president candidates due to several election complaints received by the Judicial Council.
“The Judicial Council is working through a few election complaints we received toward the tail end of the voting period, so we’re postponing results announcement until all matters are resolved,” USG Chief Justice Ryan Tung wrote in a statement to Annenberg Media.
These election complaints come just weeks after two candidates, Syrabi Rahman and Diane Kim, were found guilty of three out of four charges brought forth by opposing candidates.
The running mates were found guilty of improper use of a USG position to enhance a campaign and the use of a non-USC individual to create and distribute campaign content. Rahman and Kim said they are following the sanctions that the judicial council has imposed during the election process.
“We trust the Judicial Council and their ability to be able to make those decisions for themselves,” Rahman said in an interview with Annenberg Media.
Election results will be announced during the next regularly scheduled USG meeting on Tuesday, March 3.
