After defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, Sam Darnold became the first USC quarterback to lead his team to a championship. He went 19-for-38 for 202 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Darnold, who was drafted by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL draft, played for USC from 2015-2017, during which he had a 20-4 record, with 57 touchdown passes and 22 interceptions.
Darnold was one of four former Trojans to play for the Seahawks tonight. Defensive end Leonard Williams (2012-2014), linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (2014-2017), and defensive tackle Brandon Pili (2017-2022) also played for USC.
While Darnold is the first USC quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl at the position, Willie Wood, Trojan quarterback from 1957 to 1960, won two Super Bowl championships as a safety for the Green Bay Packers.
