USC plans to remove all classroom locations from the public Schedule of Classes for “the protection of our instructional staff,” according to an email sent Tuesday by University Registrar Frank Chang.
The change, requested by the USC Safety and Risk Assurance Office, will start next week.
It comes after USC hid the physical locations for Gender and Sexuality courses last fall, citing safety issues related to prior incidents.
In a statement to Annenberg Media, the university said, “We regularly review our operations to see how we can enhance safety and security based on best practices. Students will see the classroom locations when they log in with their net IDs.”
Neither the university nor officials at the Safety and Risk Assurance Office elaborated on what specific safety concerns prompted the change.
That means only users with an active USC NetID will be able to view all classroom locations by signing in through Single Sign-On (SSO). Students will still be able to access class details through Web Registration and the Experience USC portal.
The university registrar expects that disruption due to the system update will be “minimal.”
Chang said the update may briefly affect Spring 2026 registration and could pose challenges for some new faculty and staff, who may “find the change a barrier” in locating their classrooms.
