The Los Angeles Dodgers flew out to Toronto earlier this week, prepared to face the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The Dodgers, looking to snatch another World Series title this year, were not expecting such a ferocious flock of Blue Jays.
Toronto threw out starting rookie right-handed pitcher Trey Yesavage to start the game. Los Angeles matched this by starting left-handed pitcher Blake Snell, who has proven himself more than capable in every playoff series so far this season.
The rookie held up after early traffic from the Dodgers, striking out Ohtani and keeping the Jays neck-to-neck with the Dodgers. Snell, on the other hand, had an at most alright performance. He allowed five runs and three walks, striking out four and exiting in the sixth,
The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead by the third inning of the game when catcher Will Smith hit an RBI single in the second and another run scoring in the third. This early momentum was broken when Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho got them organized in the fourth inning. A two-run homer off Blake Snell pulled the Blue Jays even back at 2-2.
The bottom of the 6th inning was dramatic, where the Blue Jays put up relentless offensive pressure that paid off when the narrow score was broken. Consecutively, six Blue Jays reached base, extending the lead to 5-2 for Toronto which had been 2-2 beforehand.
Subsequently, it set the stage for third baseman Addison Barger to bat for left fielder Davis Schenider, which led to the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history.

To no one’s surprise, a leaky Dodgers bullpen was once again a huge problem in this game. In previous playoff series, Los Angeles was able to exploit a formula of using the starter for as long as possible. Indeed, starters for the Dodgers have worked at least six innings in eight of 10 games. Once again, Manager Dave Roberts tried to stall with Snell, which unfortunately failed as Snell slowly folded under pressure. When Roberts called relief right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan out of the bullpen, it was already too late. The Dodgers were down 11-2, making the game’s outcome inevitable.
Even though Dodgers’ two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani scored a two-run homer in the seventh inning, it was not enough to take back what was already lost. LA lost game one 11-4 against the Blue Jays.
Game 2 of the Dodgers-Blue Jays World Series Championship will happen Saturday at 5 p.m.
