After President Trump’s gerrymandering order in Texas, which drew five new Republican-leading congressional districts, Gov. Gavin Newson responded with a campaign of his own. The Election Rigging Response Act, or Proposition 50, allows California voters to decide whether state lawmakers should be allowed to redraw congressional maps lasting through the 2030 election cycle. As the November special election date approaches, voters contemplate whether the state redistricting initiative is an “opportunity to create checks and balances” or simply “fighting fire with fire.”
