We’re two weeks into the NFL season, and one could not have asked for a better start from the Los Angeles Rams who kick off their 2025 season 2-0. With an impressive 14-9 Week 1 win over Houston Texans, and a 33-19 Week 2 road win against the Tennessee Titans, the Rams have shown a lot of promise on both ends of the football.
Here are three surprises so far from the Rams encouraging start to the season.
Davis Allen, TE
As a player who fans may have overlooked at the start of the season, tight end Davis Allen has been productive for the Rams offense. Allen has caught a touchdown in back-to-back games, and through two weeks, he leads the tight end room in touchdown catches.
With veteran tight end Tyler Higbee returning, and first round draft pick Tyler Ferguson from Oregon entering his first season, it’s understandable why Allen was not at the top of everybody’s list to break out. While Allen may not be as athletic as Ferguson or Higbee, he’s shown that he is an efficient blocker and red zone threat for Los Angeles.
Allen has the ability to play a crucial role down the line. There is no doubt that Tyler Higbee is tight end number one for the Rams, but Allen’s promising performance early in the season makes a quality case for why he is tight end number two right now.
Blake Corum, RB
Second-year running back Blake Corum’s strong week two performance against the Titans has a lot of Rams fans excited about his future. Kyren Williams, the Rams’ starting running back, struggled to get going throughout the entirety of Sunday’s game, paving the way for Corum to earn some extra touches.
In the Rams’ 33-19 win over the Titans, Corum had 44 yards on five rushes and scored his first career rushing touchdown. Corum provided the spark that the Rams offense needed down the line, with a pair of 15 yard runs along with a nine yard carry. Through his explosiveness, Corum showed why he should be more involved in the Rams run game this season.
Los Angeles needs to find a way to establish the run game, and if Kyren Williams is unable to lead the way, expect Corum to receive more carries.
Byron Young, Edge
Nobody on the Rams’ defense has gotten off to a hotter start than edge linebacker Byron Young. Through two weeks, Young already has three sacks, putting him on track for a breakout season if he is able to keep it up.
In his third season with the Rams, Young has been excellent against the run and has displayed his ability to get after the quarterback. During a decisive drive with the score 20-16 in the 4th quarter, Young had a clutch strip sack against the Titans’ quarterback Cam Ward. Young’s game changing play catapulted momentum in the Rams favor as they would go on to score 13 points, putting the game away.
Byron Young has stood out among a Rams defense that has been elite to start off 2025. If he is able to build on the success he has had, Young will be a havoc in the backfield for opposing offenses.
While it’s still early in the year, Los Angeles’ performance after two weeks of play has many fans excited. If the Rams are able to capitalize on their early success, they’ll be contenders in the NFC.
The Rams will next face a tough challenge on the road against the defending Super Bowl 59 champions, Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
Kickoff is set for Sunday, 10 AM PST on FOX.
