Former MVP, three-time Cy Young winner, and 11-time All-Star Clayton Kershaw will retire following the conclusion of the 2025 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced earlier today.
Kershaw, who has had a resurgence on the mound since returning from injury in May, will make his final regular-season start at Dodger Stadium against the rival San Francisco Giants.
The two-time World Series winner holds many notable accolades. Kershaw’s 222 wins are second all-time in franchise history, only behind Don Sutton. On July 2, 2025, Kershaw recorded his 3,000th strikeout, making him one of just 20 pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball to achieve this feat. Kershaw’s current career earned run average of 2.54 is the lowest of any pitcher in the live ball era.
One of Kershaw’s most memorable moments as a Dodger came on June 18, 2014, when he completed a no-hitter at Dodger Stadium against the Colorado Rockies. Kershaw maintained a perfect game until a throwing error by Hanley Ramirez in the seventh inning. He would record 15 strikeouts in the win.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers of his generation, Kershaw was notable for confusing batters with a mix of velocity and movement, most notably on his slider and his 12-6 curveball.
Kershaw will be eligible for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in 2031.
