In 1928, the Hotel Somerville was one of the only hotels in Los Angeles that opened its doors to Black Americans. A few years later, it became the Dunbar Hotel, the home of a rich jazz scene that included legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday.
Now, it is an affordable housing project that has changed the lives of senior citizens. One resident takes viewers on a tour through the space to show how it’s changed from the 1920s to today.
