USC’s College radio station, KXSC, announced on Thursday that it will reprise its music festival, KXSC fest, for the first time since 2016. The festival will be a celebration of its 50th anniversary, which is set to take place on May 9th at The Echo.
Alongside headliner 313d3p, there will be performances from other indie electronic artists Miya Lowe, indigo forever, After, Jordan Patterson, and more.
Maya Tauber is a senior and the KXSC street team co-director. She was a major player in deciding on the festival’s featured artists.
“We wanted to incorporate the very eclectic taste that our station has, and the kind of eclectic mix of the L.A. area. So it was a group effort of everyone in the station, kind of bringing up artists or bands that we’ve seen before that we think would be super cool to incorporate and showcase our diverse range and taste in the station,” Tauber said.
Street team co-director Betsy Schmeler, a senior music industry major, emphasized authenticity as an important factor when choosing the artists.
“Throughout the entire lineup, we really wanted to choose good people that we really trust and believe in, and wanted to use our platform to make it as cool as possible and not be defined by any number standards or anything,” Schmeler said.
She wanted the lineup to be an inspiration for attendees.
“I feel like whenever you see someone putting themselves out there, that makes you want to do more,” Schmeler said.
Alongside live music, the event will feature tables with local radio stations and KXSC alumni, many of whom are founding members of the organization. They also plan to raffle off merchandise from various partnering companies.
For many in the club, KXSC fest is a culmination of what they love best: music, community, and college radio.
“I love college student radio. It has been like the highlight of my college career, and to be able to put something on this large of a scale with such incredible artists and with all my friends, it means so much to me,” Tauber said. “It shows all the hard work that we’ve been doing this whole semester and it’s a showcase of the love and appreciation we have for KXSC and the general music community in Los Angeles.”
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and can be found in the bio of their Instagram account @kxscradio.
