USG candidates debate

USC Student Government candidates had a live debate. Presidential, Vice Presidential and senatorial candidates took the stand.

Candidates for Undergraduate Student Government sparred and shared ideas last night at the Tutor Campus Center. The candidates' platforms ranged from establishing an on-campus Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant to expanding mental health resources for students.

They also touched on themes of representation, accessibility, and prioritizing student experiences. We went out to ask students what they want USG to accomplish on their behalf.

Public relations sophomore Ava Eitrheim shared her priorities,

“More food options in the USC village, and I live in the village, so that would be really beneficial for me.”

While she didn’t tune in to the USC debate, she knows students running for office who are pushing for better food options,

" I think anything that benefits Student Life and the experience here on campus is mostly what I’m looking forward to."

Will Wang is a first year master’s student in public diplomacy. He says he doesn’t know much about USG just yet, but would like to know more about the candidates' platforms. Better campus access is on his wish list,

" I like to see the entrance because, you know, I heard before the school is like, it’s not that locked. I know it’s for the safety, but somehow I do think that is just, in fact, our like convenience for I have to drive much longer, for, like, maybe 10 more minutes to get into school and then exit is also like being locked."

USC elections run from February 18th through 21st. Results will be announced the 25th.
