What are Trojans’ favorite holiday movies?

Holiday movies help students find comfort and a sense of home.

If there’s anything that we Trojans love, its tradition.

And If there’s anything that’s going to remind us of the joy that awaits at the end of this semester, Its a good holiday movie.

From childhood classics like “Home Alone” to even an action movie like “Die Hard,” there’s something for everyone.

This being Los Angeles, we take our film-going seriously, and holiday films are no exception. Special holiday film screenings are being held all over town, including a holiday film festival starting Dec. 13 in North Hollywood.

Closer to home, here on campus, we decided to ask Trojans for their personal favorites.

It was an easy answer for Caroline Skok, a sophomore Annenberg communications student.

“I think my favorite holiday movie would be ‘Elf’, just because I’ve watched it so many times and I still laugh,” she said. “It’s a good classic to watch with friends and family.”

Public relations student Viangelly Peña said her holiday film favorite makes her reminisce about home.

“My favorite holiday movie has to be the ‘Home Alone’ Series, but particularly ‘Home Alone 2′ just because it’s nostalgic for me.” she said. “I was born and raised in New York and I grew up watching it a lot.”

For sophomore Sarai Mata, also a public relations student, it’s all about the childhood memories.

“My favorite holiday movie is probably Barbie’s The Nutcracker (’Barbie in the Nutcracker’). I always love the ballet, and it just always puts me in the holiday spirit with the music and everything,” Mata said. “And it’s just a very feel-good movie that just makes you fall in love with the music.”

Annenberg Media Center facilities manager Jim Yoder likes the classics.

‘It Happened on 5th Avenue’ and ‘Love Actually’. ‘It Happened on 5th Avenue’ speaks to.... wanting to be richer and then realizing how good it is to help somebody that needs help,” he said. “‘Love Actually,’ just the greatest Christmas movie ever made”

Regardless of what’s on your “recommended-to-watch” list, or what traditions define your holiday, one thing I’m sure we can agree on is that we can’t wait for finals season to be over -- so that we can start bingeing.
