Dems last months: What do students want from Biden’s last few months?

On Tuesday, Donald Trump was reelected as president and will return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States. With a little over one month left in office, students across USC’s campus share predictions on the closing term of Biden’s presidency and hope that Biden will initiate some final actions before Trump takes office.

Freshman, Ruby Bierman, majoring in Communications, is optimistic that a big change in the government is in store.

“I’m kind of hoping that maybe they make a move to do something with the Supreme Court. I don’t want to say, pack it, but maybe just work. There some, some ways, maybe push some legislation that can go through before Trump entered, enters the White House,” Bierman said.

Other students like Maya Tauber, a Senior Cognitive Science Major, think that there is still potential for some change to occur and is hopeful for a peaceful pass of the presidential baton.

“I don’t really expect much just kind of a peaceful transition into the new administration. I do expect some action regarding Palestine and Israel, because I don’t really have full faith in the next administration to take much action,” Tauber said.

Even though students have been hopeful thinking Biden has a chance, some doubt there is still time for Biden to create change.

Simon Webster, a Research Lab Technician for Dornsife Molecular & Computational Biology articulates the transition may evoke a bumpy road ahead. He feels there is not much more that Biden can do to finish his term.

“Trying to have a smooth transition of power over to Trump, even though Trump might not want that or is excluding his side of that process, but I don’t know what else Biden can do at this point,” Webster said.

Donald Trump will be inaugurated in 74 days on Monday, January 20th, 2025.
