Gov. Newsom bans legacy admissions at private universities

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signs a law that bans legacy admissions at private, non-profit universities like USC and Stanford.

The law—which takes effect in 2025—would prevent selective institutions from giving special consideration to applicants with familial connections. The man accused of hijacking a metro bus last week is charged with murder and kidnapping, among more. And one Florida State University student spoke to Annenberg Media about Hurricane Helene’s destruction in the Southeast.
