Trojan Family Weekend allows parents from across the globe to visit the USC campus and reunite with their children.
“I’m looking forward to exploring how my daughter gets her education, and what USC has to offer,” said Eyob Hamda, a dad who traveled from Madison, Wisconsin, to see his daughter.
From Thursday through Sunday, Trojan parents and family members will experience life as a USC student, touring the campus, attending educational sessions and learning about the services students can access on campus.
USC mom Aracely Suri, who traveled to L.A. from New Jersey, said she plans to attend several events hosted by the Iovine and Young Academy. While this is her third family weekend, she said she was especially eager to reunite with her son during his senior year and spend time with him before he graduates.
“I wanted to just go explore and meet new people today,” she said.
But mostly, this four-day event gives family members a chance to see their children.
For USC parent Qiang Zhu, who traveled from Atlanta, is most excited to see how his freshman son has been transitioning into college.
“He started his freshman year one month ago, so we wanted to see how his life is at USC,” said Zhu.
Like Zhu, dad Eddie Robinson traveled more than 2,000 miles from Alabama to Los Angeles. Robinson said he was happy to spend time with his daughter and witness her transition into college.
“With her being a freshman, this is our first time coming for family weekend,” he said. “We’re also looking forward to the game tomorrow.”
Saturday’s game against the Wisconsin Badgers is a weekend highlight for many families wanting to experience a typical Trojan game day from a USC student’s perspective.
“Our family is going to come together for the football game, so that’s going to be fun,” said Brandi Lewin, a Trojan parent from Carson.
Kristin Nygreen, who flew in from New York City, said she was looking forward to spending time on the campus to see what her daughter’s life is like as a student at the School of Cinematic Arts.
“We’ve got the family here, so we’re just excited for everyone to see USC for the first time,” Nygreen said.
