What families need to know about USC’s Trojan Family Weekend

Despite increased security, visitors will only need to present a government-issued ID to enter campus.

Trojan Family Weekend is back this weekend, a yearly tradition offering families a chance to see their students in action.

Starting on Thursday, families will get to see firsthand how the campus comes together to succeed in all things from academics to arts to athletics. With over 200 programs to choose from, families will be busy exploring the various activities offered leading up to the USC-Wisconsin football game kickoff.

Kyra Nakamura, a freshman studying neuroscience, said her family is looking forward to the upcoming events. “They’re excited for the tailgates,” Nakamura said, “We’re all going to the game, we’re all very excited.”

As the weekend approaches and families get ready to visit their students and campus, USC is also making preparations for accessing its events to be as smooth as possible.

All families planning to attend Trojan Family Weekend programs must register for the event as a whole, though anyone is welcome on campus. Registration is currently limited to late sign-ups which start at $117. However, the registration fee does not cover the Saturday tailgate or football tickets. The Trojan Family Weekend Tailgate is currently priced at $80 and game tickets can be purchased at the USC ticket office.

This year USC has partnered with Trojan Travel to make travel easier for visitors by offering Trojan families discounts to hotels and rental cars with passcode “Tommy” and complimentary parking for Thursday and Friday this week.

In recent months, USC has added entrance restrictions, including mandatory ID checks and potential bag checks. Registered parents and family members will be able to enter campus with QR codes sent via email and Trojan Family Weekend 2024 Mobile App. Guests who did not register will be asked to show a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license to access campus.

With the increased security on campus, some families are appreciative of the measures that go into ensuring the safety of their children. “[My parents] actually really like it, because of that area around here … they think it’s dangerous,” Samantha Flores, a senior studying history, said.

Upon arrival, visitors can make their way to Alumni Park where they will receive their name badge and welcome gift.
