Trojan family weekend kick-started this morning with a ceremonial performance by the Trojan Marching Band and remarks from USC administrators.
This weekend, parents can attend open houses, brunches, tailgates, and the upcoming football game against Wisconsin. Through these events, they’ll get a sense of USC life, academics, and school spirit.
Trojan parent Kelly Meade has a freshman daughter in the Thorton Music program. Meade says she’s been exploring USC during her first family weekend.
“We went to the breakfast and, and we saw the band play and and then we went to the Ronald Tudor, and we listened to the about the alumni network, and that was amazing,” Meade said.
And lots of other events. But on a campus of almost 50,000 students, family weekend events can get crowded -- and expensive. -- take football tickets which start at around 60 dollars.
We caught up with Donna Sneeringer, a parent to a freshman studying political science and public policy. She traveled from Sacramento to attend family weekend. Sneeringer believes the experience is worth it.
“It is expensive, but the whole experience is expensive,” Sneeringer said. “We just feel like it’s important to take advantage of learning about the school and getting to see where our daughter’s spending her time.”
Dahlia Damasco agrees. She also traveled from Northern California. Her son is a senior in the Viterbi school.
“I encourage people to attend it if they can,” Damasco said. “We had a lot of fun the first year was really fun because my daughter was here with us, but my daughter is in college now also, but yeah, definitely worth it.”
Family weekend continues till Sunday.
