Keck Hospital of USC was announced as a top performer in clinical quality, supplier diversity and environmental sustainability excellence by Vizient Inc., a leading healthcare performance improvement company in the nation.
The hospital was among 14 in its academic medical center cohort of 115 to receive the most prestigious Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership award. It was previously awarded the honor in 2022.
“Being named a Vizient top performer for the second time is a tremendous honor and reflects our continual efforts to provide superior clinical outcomes for our patients,” Stephanie Hall, MD, MHA and chief medical officer of Keck Medical Center said to USC News. “The hospital uses a rigorous quality and accountability framework to guide and benchmark our performance across many markers of patient care, which has led to this success.”
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study uses metrics including mortality, efficiency, effectiveness, patient centeredness, safety and equity to assess the quality of patient care.
“Top performers set a precedent in leadership and culture for other health systems and hospitals to follow,” Byron Jobe, Vizient president and CEO said in a Vizient news release. “We celebrate each of these organizations for their efforts to deliver cost-effective, high-quality patient care in their communities.”
Beyond Vizient, Keck Hospital has also received an “A” Hospital Safety grade – the eighth in the last five years – from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog group whose grading system is peer-reviewed and fully transparent to the public. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality star rating report gave Keck five stars, the highest possible rating.
“This latest distinction achieved by Keck Hospital of USC is made possible by our culture of shared goals, collaboration and adaptability in an ever-changing health care environment, and is a testament to our staff’s unwavering commitment to deliver nationally recognized high-quality, equitable care,” said Marty Sargeant, MBA and CEO of Keck Medical Center in a USC News article.
Keck Hospital is a part of Keck Medicine of USC, the university’s medical enterprise whose internationally renowned physicians care for patients, as well as teach and conduct research at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
