All campus gates to open August 15

After 105 days of restricted access, the university announced it would allow campus access through all entrances ahead of fall semester.

All campus gates will be open beginning August 15, the university announced in a campuswide email Wednesday.

The McCarthy Way and McClintock Avenue entrances will be open 24/7, and all other entrances will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The university began restricting access to just three entrances — McCarthy Way, McClintock and Watt Way — on April 24, after LAPD arrested over 90 protestors at a pro-Palestine encampment.

Those with USC IDs will be able to tap or swipe their cards in “fast lanes” for expedited entry at most entrances, a system USC introduced in July. Only those with USCards or guest registrations can use the pedestrian entrance at McClintock. Approved vendors may also enter by car.

Guests must still be registered online at visitor.usc.edu.

New staffed “welcome services” tents will be stationed near the busiest campus entrances. Construction of a new permanent gate at the McClintock entrance will begin the week of August 12, with temporary fencing and open access until its completion.
