Career advice from a young professional who understands the job market is a game-changer!

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Black. welcomed DeAndre Brown as the guest speaker for their year-end career workshop. Students shared their experience, questions and advice on all the stages one might encounter when building their professional career and searching for the right job.

With over a million followers on TikTok, Brown has built a viral following as “The Corporate Baddie,” posting humorous skits about being a Gen Zer in the workplace. Outside of his social media platform, Brown is an accomplished professional, a graduate of Morehouse College, and the founder of GenXL Consulting. Today he is a valuable resource for the next generation making their way into the workfield.

In Sheindlin Forum, to help make sure that the event was as interactive as possible, students were given sticky notes, which they were instructed to place on different boards that were titled: resume, conflict, networking, interview, and advancement. Each sticky note was the student’s chance to ask a question or give some advice.

Students used Post-Its to create an engaging dialogue that addressed the issues they face as they pursue their dreams. The discussion ranged from social media presence to horrible interview experiences. Yet one thing remained the same. The event never felt like a lecture but was a genuine conversation between fellow students and mentors.
