Mid-Autumn Festival by Janey Zhang, published Sept 29, 2023
In crafting this logo doodle for the Mid-Autumn Festival, I aimed to capture the essence of this cherished celebration. Drawing inspiration from the festival’s most iconic elements, including lanterns, bunny, full moon and mooncake patterns which I used to interweave within some of the letters. I wish this logo doodle can evoke a sense of unity and warmth, much like the festival itself.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day by Kaitlin Becenti, published October 9, 2023
While designing the logo for Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Kaitlin wanted to capture the elements most seen within most Indigenous communities across the United States. A hummingbird serves a different purpose in Indigenous cultures, some main ones are beauty, healing, harmony, and joy. A yucca plant’s role in healing is through its medicinal sources while also being utilized as soap in traditional ceremonies. The term ‘Land Back’ was added to the logo to remind us of the stolen Indigenous land we stand and roam on today that is attempting to be returned to the righteous owners. All together, Kaitlin hopes to have created a logo that represents all Indigenous cultures and heritages.

Election Day by Nina Moothedath, published November 7, 2023
“I made the election doodle using Procreate because I wanted a gif but with very few frames so it’d take up as little space as possible. I wanted it to be fun/light but also have it be clear that it was a voting box.”

Thanksgiving by Theo Peng, published November 23, 2023
“Moreso than turkeys or pilgrims, I’ve come to associate Thanksgiving with the fall harvest - it basically functions as most Americans’ stand-in for fall harvest festivals. And the fall harvest brings the cornucopia to my mind. I kept the palette to muted warm tones to match the season, and some photo arrangements with vines inspired the adornments over the lettering. I’ve been working with Clip Studio Paint for iPad for a few years now, and I’ve tried my hand at lineless art styles here and there. I thought it would be a good fit for the doodle, and I’m proud of how it came out here!”

April Fool’s Day by Maria Vittoria Borghi, published April 1, 2024
I picked this holiday because I think every day is April Fools’ Day when you’re Gen Z. Humor is so built into our outlook on life and I think it gives us strength to push through and challenge ourselves. So I definitely wanted the USC Annenberg Media page to have something playful for today.
