Israel canceled a planned visit to Washington after the U.S. allowed the United Nations to pass a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on Monday. This is the strongest public clash between the two countries since the war began -- Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the U.S. “retreated” from a “principled position” by letting the vote pass without conditioning the cease-fire on the release of hostages held by Hamas.
A Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in New Jersey just made someone a billionaire Tuesday night -- marking the state’s largest-ever jackpot. The winning ticket was purchased at a ShopRite Liquor located on Route 66 in Neptune, Monmouth County. The prize is estimated to be $1.13 Billion Dollars -- the eighth-largest in U.S. lottery history and the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history.
Baltimore’s 47-year-old Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed on Tuesday morning after a cargo ship struck one of its pillars. Cars and people that were on the 1.6-mile long structure fell into the water below. Six construction workers were presumed dead, but only two bodies have been recovered so far. Maryland Governor Wes Moore had this to say about the efforts of the rescue teams:
Famed American sculptor Richard Serra passed away this Tuesday at his home in Long Island, New York. The San Francisco native is recognized as one of the most renowned sculptors of his generation. Serra’s colleagues called him the “poet of iron” for his large-scale steel structures like the Tilted Arc, Snake and Promenade.
Election law expert Franita Tolson has been named the dean of the USC Gould School of Law effective April first. Dean Tolson is USC’s first African American Law School Dean and only the second female Dean in school history. Tolson said she is honored and looking forward to serving the entire Gould Trojan Family.
