The new four-part docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” premiered Sunday on Max.
It exposes alleged child abuse and sexual assault that happened during Nickelodeon’s golden years in the late ‘90′s and early 2000′s.
The creator of many Nickelodeon shows, Dan Schneider, is one of the major focuses of the tell-all docu-series. Schneider helped to produce “Zoey 101″, “Drake and Josh”, “iCarly” and “Victorious.”
Schneider himself addressed these accusations in a video he posted last week on his YouTube channel.
Dan Schneider: It was wrong. It was wrong that I ever put anybody in that position. It was a wrong thing to do, I’d never do it today. I’m embarrassed that I did it then. I apologize to anybody I ever put in that situation.
At USC, students going into the dramatic arts were not pleased with the latest accusations of darkness in their chosen field.
Here’s School of Dramatic Arts student, Matias Lievano,
Matias Lievano: It was shocking that it was like coming from kid shows, I feel like that that’s something you like, look over usually because it’s usually like a producer or director like does this to a grown woman or the other way around.
Lievano said these issues on set should have been dealt with long ago.
Lievano: All the shows he worked on and he like, created, have these like, very, like, really big red flags, where it’s like, they’re like, showing off their feet, like, oh, touch my foot. And or like, I don’t want to say really weird jokes that shouldn’t be in cut shows.
Another SDA student Katie Klaskin says this exploitation is especially bad when it happens to children making kids shows.
Katie Klaskin: I only knew about the Dan Schneider thing really, because a lot of it happened when I was really really young. So I was just really like upset and angry And disappointed with Nickelodeon that they had let everything that had happened happen. And it just it seemed like such a gross like misuse of power by them and like a really strong lack of oversight. So that was just really upsetting.
It is upsetting that stories like this keep coming to light.
