USC’s Spring Break is right around the corner and students are preparing for their time off. After a long winter filled with high winds and tons of rain, students are looking to hit the beach and spend time in the sun.

Spring Break will begin on Sunday, March 10th, and end the following week on Sunday, March 17th.

Students have a variety of excursions planned for their week-long hiatus. Some are planning to visit different countries to soak up some sun with their friends and families, while others are looking forward to a stay-cation here in Los Angeles.

For Dylan Roberts, a senior studying intelligence and cyber operations, it will be his first spring break staying in Los Angeles. Roberts is embracing this break’s open schedule to spend more time in Los Angeles.

Roberts: I feel like senior year just like a lot of things pile on to your workload, and just like taking time for yourself just to destress, relax, and you know just vibe out.

Taylor Contarino, a senior studying journalism, is used to working throughout this break in the past. However, since it is her senior year, she decided to travel with her friends for her last spring break at USC.

Contarino: I’ve actually never been on a spring break trip before. I usually just work and catch up on schoolwork, but this year since I am a senior, my friends and I are traveling. We are going to be in Mexico for just a couple of days and I’m really excited.

No matter the destination, the underlying theme is the same: rest.

Contarino: What I am trying to get out of spring break is to learn about rest. I am planning on putting my laptop away for a couple of days, and I know it’s going to give me severe anxiety, but I know that I need to allow myself to rest sometimes, so what I’m trying to get out of spring break is the concept of rest and relaxation, even if it’s just for three or four days before you know getting back to school.

Spring Break falls right in the middle of the semester when students are finishing weeks of assignments and midterms.

Talula Zies, a freshman studying history and philosophy, politics, and law, is in the middle of her second semester at USC. Zies has just finished her midterms and is expecting to soak in the sun.

Zies: Rest is needed because midterms just almost killed me...because I haven’t gotten sleep because of the extensive reading and studying, but I hope to get some beach time in, some sun, because I’ve been in Leavey for the entire week.

Whether it’s catching flights or catching z’s, students are looking for a chance of relaxation and serenity.
