The Amber Alert you received last night was resolved within minutes thanks to two college students in Long Beach.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a parent stepped away from their vehicle to make a delivery and left it running with a 4-year-old child in the backseat. According to Long Beach Police, the suspect then got in the 2021 gray Honda Accord and drove off with the child still in the car.
Reagan Dunn and Yenni Lu, both 20, were in the area when they received an Amber Alert and decided to take matters into their own hands and go look for the vehicle. In a statement to ABC7, Dunn said “We got an Amber Alert on our phone, and we decided to start looking.”
As the pair were driving, Dunn spotted the vehicle, now abandoned, and called 911. The boy was still in his car seat unharmed. The Amber Alert was sent out at around 7:30 p.m. and the young boy was found around 8 p.m. near Pine Avenue and Shoreline Dr.
The child was reunited with his father at the scene.
Officers are still searching the surveillance footage in the area in hopes of finding the suspect.
