That’s 2000s-era legend Usher performing yesterday at Super Bowl halftime. Throughout the show, Usher swapped between sparkly blue to all-white outfits. He played his greatest hits from the last thirty years and proved himself to be an R&B great..
Usher packed the show with artists he’s played with over the years, from Ludacris to H.E.R., performing an incredible guitar solo.
Freshman Sean Coughlin majors in popular music performance. He appreciated the guest stars.
Sean Coughlin: “I liked that they brought out Alicia Keys. The whole bit that they did where Usher was like dancing on her was a little weird, and I didn’t get that part.”
Usher also brought out Will.i.am and Lil Jon.
Candy Holguin, is a junior studying cinema and media studies. She says she found the halftime performance to be a blast.
Candy Holguin: “I thought he did a really good job. I loved all the special guests he brought on. The choreography was amazing. He used, like, some of his best songs. But yeah, I really liked it.”
But despite the surprise guests, and what a lot of people are calling over-the-top choreography, some students found Usher’s performance to be lackluster.
Jessica Brady: “It was just, it was fine. It wasn’t great.”
Jessica Brady is a freshman linguistics major. She says someone else should’ve performed the halftime show in place of Usher.
Jessica Brady: “I know he’s iconic, but I feel like they could have chosen a more contemporary artist that’s been putting out more, like, music recently.”
The excitement might not have translated through the TV, but the crowd seemed to love it. Ye Ma is a senior studying film and television production.
Ye Ma: “I feel like it’s, like, a big party, you know? Everyone’s just enjoying themselves.”
After Usher’s headline show at the Super Bowl, many people wonder who the chosen artist will be next year.
