All dressed up and nowhere to go? Step into a world filled with smiles, laughter and pops of pinks and reds at Bacari West Adams, only a 10-minute drive from campus.

The aesthetic of the restaurant was romanticized by soft lighting and candles on every table. Some candles were filled with ordinary yellow wax, while others were burning with deep red or light pink wax.

Bacari was decorated with hearts in all shapes and sizes and in all different places. Sitting in the main part of the restaurant allows restaurant-goers to look up at large, white puffball hearts and small red tinsel hearts hanging from the ceiling.

The adjacent room was adorned with shelves holding various colored candles, flowers and hearts. Large antique mirrors decorated the Victorian-looking walls.

The bar was embellished with large red hearts, laying on their sides, that had small light bulbs lining the inside perimeter. “Floating” above the bar on nearly invisible strings were red hearts with fairy lights. Even the bathroom was decorated with hearts, colored candles and dim lighting.

Pick up the red menu with an inconspicuous heart stamped on it. Choose from a variety of Valentine’s themed cocktails: “beet of my heart”, “on cloud nine,” “haters gonna hate” or “last-minute gift.” Last-minute gift was perfectly on theme with the Valentine’s vibe. The drink tasted like a combination of rich chocolate with a shot of espresso, reminding me of chocolate-covered strawberries and heart-shaped boxes filled with chocolates.

The menu featured a special dessert: a plate of donut holes dusted with powdered sugar and sides of chocolate and strawberry sauces. The sticky sweet flavor of the strawberry sauce instantly transported me back to strawberry picking with my mom on chilly days in March.

The Valentine’s pop-up will run until Feb. 26.
