Taylor Swift and the most outrageous outfits at the Grammys

The 2024 Grammys provided an eyeful of interesting outfits.

This year’s 66th Grammys, like all the previous ones, provided two shows in one – the actual awards ceremony and the red carpet extravaganza. Whether watching in an elegant dress with an intricate updo at the Crypto.com Arena or from the comfort of a couch with a bowl of popcorn, many viewers anticipated Taylor Swift’s fashionably late arrival.

Swift, directed by her long-time stylist Joseph Cassel Falconer, wore a strapless, floor-length gown by Schiaparelli. She also donned black gloves reaching mid-way up her upper arms and accessorized by layering five necklaces, one of which was a watch choker.

While Swift showed up in the antithesis of a black gown — the color scheme expected by the majority of the Swiftie population — her outfit choice still appeared to support the numerous Swiftie speculations about the seemingly inevitable “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” announcement.

Seeing Swift wearing white sent fans into a spiral on social media, especially X, with Swifties immediately coming up with new theories. Her outfit seemed to be on theme with the recent change in her social media profile pictures from a colored photo to black and white and with the glitchiness of her website. Earlier in the day, Swift’s website was down and showed an error message, including an anagram for the words “red herring.”

The Swifties may not have gotten the announcement they expected, but Swift did not disappoint with the reveal of her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

In retrospect, Swift’s past Grammy looks, like her 2021 Oscar De La Renta dress, have complimented her better. However, her outfit was not lacking in elegance or easter eggs, giving her a one-night pass from critiques of needing a new stylist.

A few celebrities weren’t so lucky as they ran a little too far with the Grammys’ trend of “anything goes.”

Dawn Richard arrived on the red carpet wearing a fitted, red gown by Khosrov with major embellishments. Sprouting out of the straps of her dress were numerous red tree leaves, all coming together to form a canopy above Richard’s head. The leaves captured the eye, drawing attention away from Richard and creating an overpowering look.

Yolanda Adams walked the red carpet wearing a satin, hot pink blazer dress with roses scattered across it in various locations. Underneath the blazer, she wore a sequined pantsuit resembling the color of Oscar the Grouch. Lastly, in an attempt to tie the whole look together, Adams wore satin pink heels, albeit a different shade of pink from the blazer.

Ice Spice matched her fire orange hair to the pieces of fur adorning the collar, middle of the top, and sleeve cuffs. Her casual denim outfit by Baby Phat was accessorized with a large belt buckle, what appeared to be a leather watch strap dangling from her right shoulder and a homemade- adjacent leg slit in the front.

Jacob Collier made his appearance in a suit clashing with a multitude of patterns. Underneath, he wore a hot pink turtleneck. Every aspect was fighting for attention, leaving the viewer unsure of which aspect to take in first.

Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle wore a one-shoulder dress fashioned from navy blue tulle and an array of brightly colored threads. Some of the threads looked to be forming an embroidery pattern, while others looked tangled and haphazardly hot-glued. She accessorized with a Western-looking hat, pigtail braids, and layered numerous bracelets, presenting a very unclear aesthetic.

Summer Walker, adorned in feathers head-to-toe, wore a strapless white gown by Usama Ishtay and a floppy hat to match. The ginormous hat and copious amounts of feathers drowned out the singer. Her outfit choice does beg the question… was she eating feathers all night?

Both Charlotte Lawrence and Doja Cat were seemingly on the same dress code page. Lawrence and Doja Cat were in opposing colors, Lawrence in black and Doja Cat in beige.

Lawrence wore a sheer off-the-shoulder dress by Rodarte. The floor-length gown was embellished with lace applique and silver glitter threading throughout. Doja Cat’s Dilara Findikoglu gown followed the wildly popular corset trend, featured a train and looked to be made from organza. Ultimately, they both left little to everyone’s imagination.
