Kali Uchis, Colombian-American singer-songwriter, is set to release her fourth studio album Orquideas; (orchids) the national flower of Columbia, this Friday, Jan.12.

The Grammy award-winning singer wrapped up her extended “Red Moon in Venus” tour last September with a sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl - truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Following a successful album release, The “Red Moon in Venus” tour was the perfect opportunity for Kali Uchis to debut her song “Te Mata,” which was later revealed to be part of her upcoming album “Orquideas.”

Shortly after the “Red Moon in Venus” tour ended on Oct. 3, Kali Uchis took to Instagram where she teased the release of her new album. The teaser video is set in a mystical fantasy floral garden where an unknown individual is using an old remote to flip through channels on a vintage television. The screen first shows “Kali Uchis Album 4″ but quickly pans over to a language selection screen. After “Español” is selected the TV flashes “Orquideas” onto the screen where the teaser abruptly ends with a shot of Kali Uchis sitting on a mossy hill remote in hand.

Her video caused online commotion considering how well “Red Moon in Venus” did. Two weeks after her teaser video, Kali Uchis released the entire tracklist by posting a photo of it tattooed on her back in a blue scripture-like font. The tracklist revealed Kali Uchis will be collaborating with; Peso Pluma, El Alfa, JT, KAROL G, and Rauw Alejandro.

The artist revealed her album will feature genres such as Latin Disco, House, Mariachi, and other genres typically not seen in mainstream media. Currently, three songs of “Orquideas” have been released: “Muñekita,” and “Te Mata,” along with “Labios Mordidos” which has charted on the Billboard Top 100 Chart. The anticipation for this album is clear amongst her fans.

Kali Uchis has been writing and producing music for over 10 years, but continues to stay true to her Colombian roots and aesthetics. Her Colombian heritage and upbringing has inspired the creation of her second all-Spanish album “Orquideas” - the national flower of Colombia. With the release of her new album Kali Uchis stated in a press release she hopes to “redefine the way we view Latinas in music,” by drawing inspiration from the “timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful, and sensual allure of the orchid.” Kali Uchis is helping pave the way for Latinas in music.

Leading up to the album’s release, Kali Uchis will be hosting a listening party January 11 in Los Angeles just hours before the official release. The announcement of this event resulted in the limited-ticket availability selling out almost immediately. This 21+ event is located at 6523 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, 90028. Aside from an advance hearing of the album, a special guest will attend and exclusive merchandise will be available.

Kali Uchis has not disappointed her fans as she continues to release snippets and teasers of the upcoming album, but with this new event, fans, including me, are even more excited for this album’s release. Will you be allured by the orquídea? “Orquideas” by Kali Uchis.
