From now until December 5, the USC Sustainability Hub is home to both a non-perishable food drive benefiting the Trojan Food Pantry and USC Student Basic Needs and a winter clothing “drop ‘n’ swap” with FreeSCycle.
Students are asked to donate any winter clothing and accessories for the clothing swap but are welcome to participate without bringing an item themselves. Any of the unclaimed clothing will be donated to Goodwill after Dec. 5, according to the event listing on the USC Event Calendar.
Canned vegetables, soup, pasta, rice, popcorn, protein bars, cereal, dried fruit and nuts are among the non-perishable items students can donate for the non-perishable food drive; all donations will go to the Trojan Food Pantry, which benefits USC students experiencing food insecurity.
USC Student Basic Needs operates the Trojan Food Pantry, which is based in TCC 425A and aims to provide food-insecure students with resources like the non-perishable food items that students, faculty and staff can donate during the “Hub for the Holidays” food drive.
All donations can be made between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in STU 101, where the Sustainability Hub is based, per the USC Office of Sustainability’s Instagram.
Students are also invited to holiday events at the Sustainability Hub throughout the week and into the final exam period. They will offer free coffee, hot cocoa and snacks while making dehydrated fruit ornaments and garlands at the Sustainability Hub on Dec. 4 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. and cookie decorating, eating popcorn, and watching the winners of the “Plastic Kills” short horror film competition Dec. 5 from 3:00-4:30 p.m., which falls in line with the Office of Sustainability’s goals for a greener campus.
