Student musicians rock out at USC’s Sound Clash

Did you hear the music out in Hahn Plaza today? If you did, you had a free ticket to the USC Concert Committee’s latest show. The performance featured multiple student artists from the Thornton School of Music in preparation for this week’s rivalry game.

USC students are enjoying the annual rivalry week on campus. Between sleeping under Hecuba and Tommy, and desperately trying to secure a ticket to this Saturday’s big game, campus is live with excitement, anticipating the big showdown.

USC Concerts Committee is U-S-C’s official live music organization, and they are known for organizing free concerts thrown by students, for students, all year long. They also take lead in putting on events throughout the year like the Welcome Back Concert, and Springfest.

In preparation for the conquest pep rally on November 16th, with performances by Icona Pop and Baby Jake, USC Concerts Committee put on “Sound Clash”.

Sound Clash took place today in front of Tommy Trojan, and featured student artists like Aminta Skye, Snack Munson, Asher Belsky, and Hailey Wild.

Hailey Wild is a junior Pop Performance major with an emphasis in songwriting in the Thornton School of Music. Her band took the stage today in performing a series of covers and originals.

When describing her sound, Hailey had listed a variety of inspirations.

Hailey Wild: I’m really into like nineties grunge, like alternative stuff, Smashing Pumpkins kind of thing, but mixed of kind of like soft girl stuff. Like a little Lana Del Rey.

Hailey Wild is no stranger to performing at USC, as she headlined the SPARK Visions and Voices Kickoff and Arts Fest event earlier this semester.

Wild: It was like 3000 people. I know it was crazy, and I’ve never performed in front of that many people, and just a lot of people afterwards were really supportive, wanting to hear like the stuff I performed out, like my unreleased stuff.

Angelina Petticord, a junior in Popular Music Program, plays the bass for Hailey in her band.

Angelina Petticord: I’ve been playing with Haley for a couple of years now because she’s also in the pop program... I think bass is like a foundation without bass, like it’s kind of there’s like this emptiness. It just makes it sound the overall sound more full.

Angelina is featured playing on Hailey Wild’s new single, “Wake Up”. You can listen to her new single and more on all streaming platforms.
