This week is International Education Week. That’s when ISA hosts its annual Globefest in McCarthy Quad. This event serves international cuisines to students. The aim is to promote the diversity that is represented on campus. This year they had six vendors serving a variety of foods and drinks from six different continents! You could taste, West African Chop, Ackee Bamboo from Jamaica, or Italian Tiramisu, foods from Australia/Oceana, Peruvian, Pollo Inka, and Smile Hotdogs, from South Korea!
Ashley Kim: I saw one of the menu items I grew up eating, so I was excited to eat it.
Sophomore Ashley Kim studies media, arts and practice.
Kim: Yeah. So, I originally heard about this event through Instagram, and I came here last semester, and so I wanted to come and try the new food that they had this semester.
And there were plenty of new dishes.
Sharon Lee: So, we have two different types of chicken wraps. We have a spicier option and a milder option.
Sophomore Sharon Lee studies Business Administration and works with programming at ISA.
Lee: Basically, as the International Student Assembly, we represent international students on campus. We usually have a lot of events to spread international culture with USC students. For example, for this event, we have six different vendors from six continents, so we’re trying to share different types of food with everyone.
And we also have vegetarian options. And we also had berries and mango smoothies.
Sophomore Kaci Lewin studies Cognitive Science.
Kaci Lewin: I think it’s an awesome opportunity to get to try different foods from different cultures and bring people together in like an awesome place on campus where we have things like the farmer’s market and things like that. And obviously there’s a great turnout, so I think it’s an awesome event.
Lewin’s minor is Nutrition and Health Promotion, so maybe she came to the right place.
Make sure to check out more upcoming events from the International Students Association to take part in the diversity and inclusion of the USC community.
