The Major League Baseball Playoffs begin this week. And, our Los Angeles Dodgers of course are in the running to be in this year’s World Series.
But sophomore human bio student Rodrigo Cruz is not sure the Dodgers will make it through the playoffs because several times in recent years, they have stumbled. He expects...
Rodrigo Cruz: “Probably more of the same. Like, if they’ve done that for so long it’s probably for a reason. Like, it might be inexperience with like big games or something.”
The Dodgers have made the playoffs for 10 straight seasons, but it is sadly true that during that span they’ve only won one championship in 2020.
This year, the Dodgers’ record is the second-best in the National League behind the Atlanta Braves.
If the Dodgers play the Braves to see who makes it to the World Series... they’ll need to overcome the power-hitters and the strong pitching of the Braves Eli Goldenberg says.
Eli Goldenberg: “I think they have one of the best offenses and they score really fast and I just think they’re the best team.”
It’ll be hard for anyone to knock off the Braves after they tied the MLB record for most home runs as a team. Their rotation also features Spencer Strider who led the league in strikeouts this season.
Or, maybe neither the Braves nor the Dodgers make it past the playoffs. Junior journalism student Jack Hallinan hopes there will be a dark horse in the running.
Jack Hallinan: “I think the team that I want to see go for it are the Marlins. I’ve just been like loosely following their progress this season and they’re a team that is usually like, you know, lower down the MLB standard and to see them make the playoffs is really cool.”
Okay, Jack. Well some of us here in L.A. are rooting for the home team. Pardon us.. but.. Go Dodgers!
