Hundreds of mourners stood on the lawn outside the Monterey Park Civic Center at a vigil Tuesday evening held for the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting at a local dance studio.
Across the lawn, flowers were dropped off at white posts with blue hearts set up for the victims and dozens of votive candles were lit commemorating the 11 lives lost.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., local representatives and leaders spoke in front of the civic center. Many had relationships with those that lost their lives in the mass shooting, and spoke of coming together as a community and not letting the tragedy define Monterey Park.
