The inside track on Joey Logano

Logano is not only a NASCAR Champion, but a husband and father of three who dedicates much of his time to helping children in need.

Coming back to where it all began in 2022, the 31-time Cup winner returned to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday, November 6, to celebrate his recent win at the Phoenix Cup and commemorate a successful year of racing.

Logano’s first win of the 2022 season took place at the Coliseum in February, making his return a full circle moment. While in L.A., Logano visited the Boys and Girls Club of Venice, a club that provides over 4,000 kids with support and character development experiences. During his visit, Logano signed autographs and answered some of the kids’ questions.

“The questions were far more deep than I thought they would be. Usually with kids, ‘how fast does the car go? How much horsepower do you have?’” Logano said. “It was really deep questions about our sport or about life and how things were. So it was really neat to see, you know, these young kids that are very smart and into it and really cared about their future.”

Logano has been racing professionally since 2007, when he was just 17-years-old. Now at 32, he has three kids and a wife. His two boys are often pictured right next to him after a race, running up to congratulate him. Following his most recent win in Phoenix, Arizona, Logano celebrated on the track with his eldest son Hudson, who was right by his side waving a checkered flag.

Along with being a family man, Logano is the founder and chairman of the Joey Logano Foundation. The foundation was founded in 2013 when Logano was 19-years-old and aims to offer “children and young adults with a second chance during crisis.” The mission of the foundation mirrors Logano’s love for working with children.

“Well, I’m way better at interacting with kids now that I have kids. I wasn’t around kids much before that,” Logano said. “So it’s funny, once you have kids you just love kids. I just love hanging out with them.”

Three years prior to founding the Joey Logano foundation, Logano was inspired by Gavin Grubbs, a 6-year-old with muscular dystrophy who used his Make-A-Wish to meet Logano in 2010. Instantly becoming friends, Grubbs ended up being a groomsman in Logano’s wedding and their friendship still holds to this day.

“He doesn’t want to be treated any different than anybody else,” Logano told NBC Sports. “Unfortunately, people do. With us, he doesn’t get treated any different, I promise you that. We give him a hell of a time. He wants that, right?”

Up next on Logano’s circuit is more quality time with friends and family as the NASCAR season doesn’t resume until the new year. Logano will return to the Coliseum on February 5, 2023 to defend his title at the Busch Light Classic.

“I would never have thought at the end of the year I would be back here,” said Logano. “You can never call life, you never know what’s coming around the corner and you need to enjoy it.”
